Anduril Industries is stepping up its game in South Korea, opening a new office in Seoul as part of its plan to lead an AI-driven defense push across the Indo-Pacific.
The expansion centers on harnessing AI tech and autonomous systems — solutions the Korean Ministry of Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff prioritize as critical to deterring and winning future conflicts.
To steer the initiative, Anduril appointed John Kim as vice president and head of Anduril Korea. Kim, a former interim president of Boeing Korea, brings extensive experience in both the US military and South Korean defense sectors.
The American company plans to double its Korean workforce within the next year, signaling strong local commitment.
Going All-In
Anduril is also formalizing a partnership with Korean Air’s Aerospace Business Division to co-develop unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
It also intends to license its advanced products for the regional market and explore the launch of a manufacturing hub in South Korea.
“Anduril is committed to helping the Republic of Korea in its mission to develop a technologically advanced, highly networked armed force with fewer but more precise platforms,” said Kim.
“Korean Air is the leading UAS development company in Korea, and Anduril, which possesses leading AI and manned-unmanned hybrid software technology, will meet the Korean military’s drone mission autonomy requirements and mark a new turning point in the global drone market.”
Founded in 2017, California-based Anduril now employs over 6,000 people and is valued at more than $30 billion. Its clients include the US Department of Defense, the Australian Defense Force, and the UK Ministry of Defence.
