Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production is pushing to build domestic artificial intelligence capabilities through a new agreement covering AI training, technology transfer, and the potential local assembly of edge AI systems.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Intel and Toya Technology, a company affiliated with the ministry.
Under the agreement, Intel will provide training, technical guidance, and knowledge transfer as the ministry works to establish an AI ecosystem across its affiliated organizations.
The partnership also opens the door to locally assembling edge AI hardware and other computing technologies for Egypt’s military production sector.
Bringing Edge AI Into Local Production
The partners will explore the domestic assembly of edge AI solutions, allowing data to be processed closer to where it is generated rather than relying entirely on remote data centers.
Potential technologies include AI Box units, smart cameras, personal computers, servers, industrial software, Ethernet networking, and digital communications systems.
Egyptian and Intel representatives first discussed these areas in July before formalizing the partnership.
The effort supports Cairo’s broader push to localize advanced technology, expand domestic manufacturing, and reduce reliance on imported systems.
Building an AI Workforce
The agreement also focuses on developing personnel capable of deploying AI technologies across the ministry’s operations.
Intel will provide specialized training and technical support, including a “Training of Trainers” program intended to build a larger pool of domestic AI specialists.
The Ministry of Military Production said the initiative could strengthen the technical capabilities of its affiliated organizations and improve the efficiency of their production systems.
Officials also expect the partnership to help Egyptian professionals apply AI across different fields while creating the expertise needed to support locally produced technologies.
