Portuguese firm Neuraspace is advancing space-domain awareness with the launch of an AI-driven system designed to safeguard satellites and other critical space assets.

Named Neuraspace DEF, the platform fuses terrestrial and space-based sensors with automated data analysis to track threats and respond in real time.

The system is intended to bolster Europe’s ability to protect its space and ground infrastructure amid rising geopolitical tensions and growing dependence on orbital systems, the firm said.

Potential space-domain threats include interference and deception of communications and navigation signals, cyberattacks on satellites and control stations, anti-satellite weapons, and orbital espionage.

“As space becomes ever more central to both security and daily life, the demand for advanced SDA [Space Domain Awareness] solutions grows,” said Chiara Manfletti, CEO of Neuraspace.

“Meeting this challenge requires operations that are more effective and also increasingly autonomous, to ensure safety and stability and for peacekeeping in and from orbit.”

Core Functions

Neuraspace DEF is built to give operators a comprehensive view of what’s happening in orbit.

It can detect and analyze non-cooperative objects or unexpected satellite maneuvers in real time, while continuously tracking national and allied spacecraft to protect key assets.

When unauthorized objects enter sensitive zones or pass over strategic regions, the system automatically generates alerts, delivering actionable data that supports tactical and operational decisions.

Beyond monitoring, Neuraspace DEF allows satellites to operate autonomously when ground contact is limited.

It can perform evasive maneuvers, avoid collisions, and maintain resilience against jamming, spoofing, and cyberattacks.

By coordinating surveillance across multiple satellites and reducing dependence on external systems, the platform offers an integrated approach to space-domain awareness and control.
