Mercury Systems is bringing AI-driven factory automation to its production operations to accelerate the delivery of critical processing technologies for US military programs.

Palantir will provide AI software to Mercury to automate production planning and create a digital twin of its manufacturing operations, helping improve efficiency, increase production capacity, and shorten delivery timelines.

Mercury said the tool will reduce manual workloads as demand grows for mission-critical processing technologies across US defense programs.

“Partnering with Palantir will enable Mercury to further drive automation and efficiency in our supply chain and manufacturing operations, which are key to accelerating delivery of critical, high-demand capabilities for the warfighter,” Mercury Chairman and chief executive Bill Ballhaus said.

Palantir Head of Defense Mike Gallagher added that integrating manufacturing and operational data into a shared platform would help Mercury deliver critical defense technologies at the speed and scale required by the US military.

AI Reshapes Defense Production and Sustainment

The agreement adds to a growing push to use artificial intelligence across defense production and sustainment, from manufacturing to maintenance.

Recent examples include Pratt & Whitney’s adoption of AI-assisted engine inspections to streamline maintenance workflows and the US Marine Corps’ deployment of AI to support equipment repair decisions and improve readiness.
