What once took weeks can now happen in hours.
Picogrid has landed a $9.3-million US Air Force contract to use artificial intelligence (AI) to rapidly modernize security operations at select bases, aiming to cut through long-standing integration bottlenecks.
At the center of the effort is the company’s flagship AI analytics platform Legion, which pulls data from multiple sensors to create one “common operational picture” for the service.
Designed as a plug-and-play solution, the software links previously incompatible systems and distributes real-time threat data across multiple mission capabilities.
Awarded under the Small Business Innovation Research authority, the deal allows the air force’s Security Forces to scale a proven capability quickly, bypassing lengthy procurement processes to improve situational awareness and base defense.
Picogrid has not disclosed which installations will receive the upgrade.
From Months to Hours
Traditionally, integrating even a single sensor system could take weeks. Picogrid said AI now handles much of that work in optimal timelines.
“When we first started…we’re looking at about a month,” Picogrid Co-founder Martin Slosarik highlighted in an interview with Breaking Defense.
With AI, “we’re looking at less than a day for most of these platforms,” he added.
According to Slosarik, the process can be even faster. A recent project involving seven integrations was completed in “about 70 minutes.”
Collaborative Strategy
Rather than building its own sensors, Picogrid has adopted a vendor-agnostic approach, working with more than 50 firms across the defense and commercial sectors.
The company said this approach helps maintain access to the “best technology” for the armed forces.
“The new operational imperative is speed, and our team partners with vendors to integrate their solutions into Department of War [command-and-control] applications faster than anyone else,” Slosarik stated.
“We achieve that speed through neutrality. We don’t rebuild what is already on the market — we collaborate. Whether it’s a commercial giant, a trusted legacy prime, or a defense startup, we provide the glue that makes their systems work together.”
