The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has taken delivery of a Babcock-built AI platform that turns intercepted communications into real-time intelligence.
Called Nomad, the signal intelligence system is designed to support intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions in contested environments.
Its AI can clean, transcribe, and translate intercepted communications, helping operators extract intelligence at the tactical edge.
The platform can also analyze those communications to determine a target’s location, movements, and capabilities.
AI Without External Services
Nomad combines multiple AI technologies that can be tailored to specific operational requirements and operates independently of external AI services.
Louise Atkinson, chief executive of Babcock’s Land and Mission Systems business, said the tech reflects the company’s ability to “harness the latest AI-driven technologies” to support frontline capabilities.
She added that Babcock is using its “sovereign expertise” to address complex operational requirements.
Babcock first introduced Nomad at Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) in September 2025.
The latest delivery fulfills what the company described as an urgent operational requirement for the UK Armed Forces.
