A Ukrainian-built AI tool called “Clarity” is cutting target detection time from hours to seconds — and it’s already operating across frontline units.

The software automates the detection and identification of Russian troops and military assets in drone footage, reducing the time spent on manual review by up to 90 percent.

Running on an ordinary laptop, the software scans photos and video feeds, independently flagging targets and sending confirmed data to commanders.

Over 250 pilots, analysts, and intelligence officers from units such as Achilles, Nemesis, and the 40th Coastal Defence Brigade are now using the system.

Faster Kill Chain 

Developed by a Ukrainian startup, Clarity first gained traction after winning the Happy New Fear Hackathon, earning a grant from defense tech cluster Brave1.

That support led to the upgraded version, “Clarity Pro,” with features like rapid visual decoding, automatic geotagging, and self-generated orthophotoplans, or detailed aerial maps built from stitched drone images.

The system continues to receive upgrades based on soldier feedback.

AI on the Battlefield

Clarity is part of a wider AI push in Ukraine’s defense sector amid the ongoing war with Russia.

Kyiv has partnered with startups to roll out AI-powered drones and intelligence tools, aiming to shorten decision cycles and keep pace with Moscow’s rapid battlefield adaptations.

In the online space, Ukrainian intelligence has also been leveraging AI tools to comb through thousands of Russian-affiliated sources, finding clues and generating key insights at a faster rate with reduced human workload.
