India is building a sovereign artificial intelligence backbone for its armed forces, aiming to design, test, and deploy AI systems entirely under national control.
The Indian Army has selected CoRover to establish a domestic AI and machine learning lab powered by the indigenous BharatGPT platform, giving personnel a secure environment to develop agentic AI tools without relying on foreign cloud services.
The lab will leverage CoRover’s BharatGPT DeskAI Appliance to provide on-premise computing for sensitive defense applications while training personnel to build and deploy AI agents internally.
BharatGPT supports multilingual, multimodal interaction with data retained entirely within India’s infrastructure.
Ankush Sabharwal, founder and CEO of CoRover, called the initiative “a pivotal step toward strengthening India’s self-reliance in AI for defense and strategic applications,” adding that it enables personnel to “learn, innovate, and deploy secure AI agents within a sovereign framework.”
No official statement from India’s Ministry of Defence was available, and details on funding, timelines, and deployment remain undisclosed.
