The US Navy is advancing condition-based maintenance efforts through a new collaboration with visual-sensing company Odysight.ai, focused on AI-powered system monitoring technologies.

At the center of the effort is Odysight.ai’s “Camera-as-a-Sensor” platform, which deploys ruggedized sensors in hard-to-reach areas of critical systems.

It uses AI to analyze real-time imagery, detecting anomalies and early signs of wear before component failures occur.

The company said the tech can support operations in harsh environments across aerospace, transportation, and defense sectors.

Part of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst (NAWCAD), the effort will initially focus on identifying issues in carrier arresting cables.

If successful, the AI tool could significantly improve fleet readiness while supporting more efficient maintenance planning across key navy systems.

Path to Wider Adoption

Odysight.ai CEO Yehu Ofer said the agreement marks “an important step in advancing AI-driven visual sensing in mission-critical defense environments.”

“Our collaboration with NAWCAD … is the first step, laying the foundation for expansion into fixed and rotary wing aircraft, ground vehicles, and more.”

While the agreement is not a procurement contract, the CRADA-based research collaboration could serve as a pathway for operational validation and potential future adoption of the tech.
