The US military wants to make its modeling and simulation workflows faster with AI.
Under an $80 million contract, Code Metal will bring its WarMatrix platform into the Department of Defense (DoD)’s existing simulation ecosystem, allowing warfighters to develop and evaluate courses of action more quickly.
WarMatrix will connect with established DoD simulation tools to support tasks such as operational planning, force design, mission engineering, campaign analysis, and military education.
AI Without Replacing Trusted Military Systems
The DoD’s simulation systems have been tested and validated over decades, making it difficult to integrate new AI capabilities without triggering extensive revalidation.
Code Metal aims to address this with “provable AI,” which mathematically verifies that software retains its behavior after transformation.
The technology will be applied to systems such as the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling, with WarMatrix supporting broader wargaming and operational analysis.
According to Code Metal, the approach lets planners combine AI with complex simulations while keeping human judgment at the center of decision-making.
