A new AI-powered platform from defense tech firm Peraton aims to help US military operators monitor online influence campaigns and rapidly evolving information environments in near-real time.

Called Peraton IRIS, the tool aggregates and analyzes data from social media, traditional media, cyber activity, and other digital sources to help analysts and commanders track narrative shifts and sentiment trends across the information battlefield.

Peraton said the platform combines five large language models with mission data and operational workflows to support semantic search, narrative analysis, and psychological operations planning.

Peraton IRIS is designed to support information environment operations across strategic, operational, and tactical levels, including missions focused on influencing adversarial decision-making.

The system is already operational at US Combatant Commands for information operations and influence-monitoring missions.

AI for Cognitive Warfare

Peraton IRIS allows operators to query massive datasets using natural language prompts and receive AI-generated analysis within seconds.

“What Peraton IRIS does is fundamentally change the relationship between the user and the data,” said Cliff Bean, Peraton senior director of cognitive warfare.

“Instead of spending hours aggregating information from disparate sources, operators can now ask complex, multi-layered questions in natural language and receive synthesized, citation-backed answers in seconds.”

The company described the platform as a response to increasingly sophisticated disinformation campaigns and online influence efforts conducted by both state and non-state actors.

“Peraton has long understood that the information environment is not a secondary theater: it is a primary one,” said Tom Afferton, president of Peraton’s Cyber and Intelligence Sector.

“In an era of cognitive warfare, speed and clarity of understanding are decisive advantages.”

The launch reflects growing military interest in using large language models to track online influence activities, similar to recent efforts by Sakana AI to map sentiment and messaging trends across social media.
