The US Army is turning to artificial intelligence to make sense of mounting sensor data, awarding Unstructured a $2-million contract to develop tools that prepare sensor feeds for AI systems and spot anomalies across multiple sources.

Under the 18-month project, the company will build multimodal data pipelines that ingest and preprocess sensor data, turning it into AI-ready information for downstream models and agents.

It will also develop tools that help surface previously unknown patterns across different sensor sources.

Its existing platform processes video, audio, imagery, and other data, converting it into structured formats that generative AI systems and autonomous agents can use.

The Small Business Innovation Research Direct-to-Phase II contract supports the US Army’s Product Manager Artificial Intelligence Operations and Services, part of the Capability Program Executive Command and Control Information Network.

The project builds on Unstructured’s earlier military AI work, including a 2022 Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the US Special Operations Command to develop an open-source framework for converting mission data into AI-ready formats.
