The US Department of Defense will feed decades of validated military research data into a new AI-driven scientific platform under the White House-led Genesis Mission, giving researchers access to a larger pool of data for accelerating scientific discovery and defense innovation.

The data will be integrated into the Department of Energy’s American Science and Security Platform, which combines datasets, high-performance computing, scientific instruments, and AI tools to support automated design workflows and advance national security research.

The Pentagon said it will contribute validated aeronautical, hydrodynamic, acoustic, and sensor data, allowing researchers to apply AI to one of the military’s largest collections of scientific and engineering data.

“President Trump has mandated that the United States be the dominant global leader in AI, and the Genesis Mission represents an unprecedented opportunity to unlock our nation’s scientific might,” Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said.

“The Department of Defense is scaling investments across AI, quantum computing and biotechnology to turn our decades of data into a catalyst for scientific discovery to support the American warfighter.”

The Pentagon plans to invest more than $200 million in fiscal year 2026 and over $1.3 billion in fiscal year 2027 to support the initiative.

A significant portion of that funding will go toward the Digital Biosecurity Forge (DB-FORGE), a high-performance computing environment being developed with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
