Maxar Technologies has launched “Sentry,” a new global monitoring solution designed to flag potential threats before they unfold.

The system uses AI to fuse satellite data with decades of geographic information, producing what the company calls “predictive intelligence” for strategic operations.

According to Maxar, Sentry includes two mission-specific products. Site Sentry focuses on key areas across land and sea, such as airports, ports, and urban centers.

Maritime Sentry, on the other hand, monitors vessel activities across large ocean regions, enabling real-time surveillance of thousands of square kilometers of ocean waters simultaneously.

Maxar CEO Dan Smoot said growing customer demands led to the development of Sentry, noting, “For many of our customers, it’s no longer enough to deliver persistent monitoring of just one or two sites or limited geographies.”

How It Works

Sentry combines three essential features. First, it automatically coordinates multiple satellite networks to maximize coverage. This allows it to monitor hundreds of sites around the world, all at once.

Second, it fuses the collected data into a single, time-aligned dataset, making it easier to run fast, scalable analysis.

Finally, AI and machine learning models compare this feed against Maxar’s 250-petabyte archive, flagging anomalous activities such as sudden troop movements, an unexpected satellite launch, or disruptions at critical infrastructure.

Maxar described Sentry as a “mini intelligence agency,” promising “unparalleled decision superiority” when the situation calls for it most.
